A draft of the Cyber Crime Bill for the Solomon Islands is  currently with the Attorney General’s Chamber. 

Minister for Communication and Aviation Peter Shanel Angovaka updates Parliament today following questions raised by the Leader of Opposition Hon. Matthew Wale 

Mr. Angovaka said, “The bill was still in its draft stage and purposely to deal with crimes committed in cyberspace, for example cyberbullying and online money laundering.” 

He added, the process will start with SIM cards registration. 

Former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Small Malaita Hon. Rick Houenipwela said the bill is timely and must be brought to Parliament soon seeing the recent rise of cyber crimes in the country lately. 

Meanwhile, Antony General John Muria Junior said, consultations have been done in the provinces, and while drafting the bill his office is also incorporating some of the comments and questions raised during the consultation period into the bill.
